Charleston Moms EATS: Myles and Jun Yakitori

Welcome to Charleston Moms EATS! Here we highlight the goodness that is local food in the Lowcountry. It might be a particular dish, a unique drink, or a restaurant that needs to be on your must-try list.

Next up . . .

Myles and Jun Yakitori

Location: 710 Bacons Bridge Rd., Summerville

The intimate Japanese eatery, Myles and Jun Yakitori, sits in an unassuming building within a shopping center, seemingly a place unworthy of Yelp’s #1 spot on their Top Places to Eat in the Charleston Area for 2022 (followed by all the usual suspects: Hall’s Chophouse, Lewis Barbecue, and Jackrabbit Filly). Myles and Jun was also voted #33 on Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. 2019, with only two other South Carolina restaurants accompanying them on that list.

Thankfully I made a reservation for our next date night out, as when we arrived on a Saturday at 6:00 p.m. the lobby was full of people waiting, as was the bar. We quickly found out why this little spot was so popular . . .

The menu is extensive and features traditional Japanese dishes including miso soup and spring rolls, ramen, yakitori skewers, wagyu, hibachi and teriyaki steak and chicken, sake, green tea ice cream, and much more.

We (my husband) devoured the harumaki beef appetizer, spicy beef yakitori, and steak plus chicken hibachi. I chose the chicken yakitori and chicken hibachi. Both entrées were served with their signature sun-dried tomato garlic butter rice, a house salad, and clear soup.

Every single bite was genuinely delicious, as was the Sake Sangria — a blend of sake, huge fresh fruits, and juices that changes daily. If sipping on tropical paradise isn’t your thing, they also have a large selection of beer, wines by the glass or bottle, and tea.

The atmosphere here is fun and casual. If you get lucky, you may even hear the owner, Mama Jun, sing to the restaurant and express her gratitude to all for stopping by.
