Charleston Moms Blog is passionate about supporting our local moms and helping to share the load of motherhood through stories, events, guides, and so much more. We are super excited to be sponsoring Charleston Storytellers newest show, Listen To Your Mother. Charleston Storytellers is a creative hub that gives writers a platform to share their unique voices and the show is directed and produced by Angie Mizzell and Becca Finley.
About Listen To Your Mother
Sometimes being a mom can feel lonely and isolating, and writing and sharing our stories is one, powerful thing we can do to feel less alone and more connected to each other and our community.
That idea—that stories create connection and community—is the heart of
Listen To Your Mother, a 90-minute live, staged reading about all things motherhood. The show will held one night only:
Friday, May 11 at 7:30 PM at the Schoolhouse in West Ashley.
The show features a cast of 14 local women and men. Their stories are crafted and woven together in a way that tells a larger story about the depth and complexity of motherhood: what it’s like to have a mother, be a mother, and lose our mothers. It’s about how mothering and being mothered shapes us into who we are today. The show is funny and heartwarming; emotionally intense and profound. It leaves the cast and the audience alike feeling a little less alone and a little more understood.
Listen To Your Mother is a national storytelling movement and is returning to Charleston for the fifth year.
A sneak peek at some of the cast
In case you needed another reason to go see the show, we’ll give you four! Four of our very own Charleston Moms Blog writers are part of the cast! We are so excited to see our writers and the rest of the cast sharing their unpublished works, and also to be giving you a sneak peek of some of their experiences being a part of this amazing ensemble. East cast members brings a unique perspective to the show, and we asked our CMB writers to tell us a little more about their experience and what to expect from this show.
Meet Whitney!
What is the best part of being a part of this ensemble of writers?
“Having a platform to be vulnerable and share my experience of motherhood with others has been incredible. Motherhood means something different for everyone, but no one can deny its impact in the lives of all of us. Listen To Your Mother has given people from all different viewpoints the ability to share their truth and in turn, open a door to recognize just how similar we all are. My hope is that others will hear our stories and be inspired to share their stories in a positive way.”
Meet Ali!
Why is this show a must-see for all parents?
“LTYM is a must see for every mother, daughter, and son. Some stories will remind the audience of their own moms, some will remind them of themselves as a mom. But each story will touch the audience in a different way- some with tears and some with laughs.”
Meet Sydney!
Tell us something that you’ve learned from being in a show like this.
“This is hard. It was hard opening up about losing my mother, finding the right words to truly express my thoughts and feelings. I found this process to emotionally hard and yet I feel more open, freer. I believe this feeling will help with my blog posts.”
Meet Ashley!
Describe the Listen To Your Mother show in three words.
“Liberating, gut-wrenching, and nostalgic. This show allows both the storytellers and audience to reminisce about their truths in such a unique way that it subliminally builds community around motherhood – even if you are not a mother.”
We are so excited to see the Listen To Your Mother show and hear from our fellow writers and Lowcountry parents. Don’t miss out, tickets are on sale now and will go fast!
