Did you know there is a day to celebrate one of the best sweet treats?! That’s right! September 12th is National Chocolate Milkshake Day! Cheers to that frothy ice cream goodness!

It was in the early 1900s that the original shake made with whiskey and eggs was replaced by syrup, sometimes malt, and ice cream — becoming our beloved choco shake today!

When it comes to ice cream or any summer treat, I’ve always been on team extravagant. I always add all the ice cream toppings and extra carbs I can get. After all, it’s dessert and we’re not counting calories. Am I right?

But my husband is my polar opposite in the best way possible. He has always been a simple guy when it comes to seasonal treats and desserts. Go to a dessert bar and he’s asking for a chocolate chip cookie or a simple chocolate shake. And I’m over here grabbing all the pumpkin-spiced treats I can find in that high-heat weather right now. It’s a win-win for me because I always try his dessert too!

So today we’re giving a shoutout to the original of shake flavors. We’re all about the chocolate!

Fun Facts About Chocolate Milkshakes

  • Hamilton Beach made the first blender specifically to be used for milkshakes.
  • Use the hashtag #NationalChocolateMilkshakeDay to celebrate this day and look up ways others are celebrating too.
  • On August 1, 2000, the largest chocolate milkshake was made to hold the Guinness World Record title in New York weighing in at 6,000 lbs!

Make sure to grab a shake and join in the celebration. Whether you want to get festive by making a shake at home or grabbing one on the go, I’ve got options for you.
