7 Date Ideas on Folly Beach

A heart-shaped seashell in sand.

Who doesn’t want to go on a date at the beach? We are so lucky to live in Charleston and have such quick access to the beach. Take advantage of it and hit the beach with your date! Here are some Folly Beach date ideas that you’re both going to love . . .

Date Ideas on Folly Beach

1. Parents-Only Beach Sesh

Here’s a novel idea: Sit on the beach by yourselves with no kids! Can you even imagine a beach trip where you aren’t hauling a wagon filled with beach toys and a million different snacks? Take a couple of hours to actually relax in a beach chair. Bring books, a speaker for some music, or some bocce ball. Grab sandwiches or boiled peanuts and drinks at Bert’s Market, and you’ve got an ideal couple of hours in the sand!

2. The Perfect Morning at Folly

How about a morning date? My ideal morning at Folly Beach starts with a long walk on the beach. Any stretch of beach is lovely, but if you walk down to the edge of the county park, you might just see some dolphins swimming by in the Folly River. Head back towards Center Street and walk to Lost Dog Cafe for breakfast! Everything on the menu is fantastic and eating at Lost Dog is guaranteed to make you feel like you’re on vacation. Cheers to your Charleston life with a bloody mary!

Take a tour or rent a pair of kayaks and explore the back creeks of Folly River. If it were me, I’d end up back at Bowen’s Island for dinner and a sunset — the perfect Lowcountry evening.

Learning something new with someone you’ve known forever is just so fun. If you don’t know how to surf, take some lessons! It might just become your new favorite hobby that you continue to do together

5. Soak in the Folly Nightlife

Need a fun night out to remind you of what life was like together in your 20s? Here’s what I’d do on Folly at night: Grab a drink at Pier 101 and enjoy the sunset at the end of the pier. Head to dinner at Jack of Cups, Taco Boy, or LowLife Bar, and then bar hop down Center Street!

6. Cruise to the Lighthouse

Pack a lunch, your bikes, some fishing equipment (if your date is like mine!), and a blanket, and cruise down to the Morris Island lighthouse (you can learn how to get there, here). Of course, you can walk down if you prefer, but it really is fun to ride your bikes. If you really think ahead, go at low tide so you can walk over to Morris Island and look for shark teeth!

7. Cards & Chill at Chico Feo

Chico Feo is our absolute favorite bar on Folly. We love getting there right when it opens, finding a corner seat at the bar, and playing cards with each other. There’s such great people-watching at Chico Feo, the food is amazing, and the vibes are perfection. Plus, there’s a good chance you’ll get to see some live music while you’re there. Everything we love in one perfect beach bar!
