Hair and Fashion: Fall Trends for Women

0

Just because we are moms, doesn’t mean we always want to be wearing sweatpants with our hair up in messy buns . . . or maybe we do. I don’t know about you, but the autumn season makes me want to change up my hairstyle and attire. The temperature and leaves are changing, so why not our look?

But then the question is, what is in style for this fall? Or, what is out of style? I have combed the web and found some trendy tips for hair and outfits for women this fall.

Hair Trends for Women This Fall

Haircuts on Trend

Easy, low-maintenance hairstyles are in — which is great for busy mamas. Hence why shags have been such a big hit this year. If you want to go short with a curly or trim pixie cut or keep it long with layers, or braids, you’re in luck because all of these are in style.

Southern Living published an article in May of this year showcasing many popular styles for 2023. And from recently visiting the hairdresser myself, I can confirm that short hair is hot right now. If you are looking for an excuse to chop your hair, this is it.

Bobs are back, which is wonderful for those who like easy yet versatile styles. You can curl the ends for a softer look or leave them edgy and blunt. Some bobs are incorporating bangs and layers too. So you can have all three styles in one. If you have braided hair, try a tightly braided lob. Wavy pixies with micro bangs are hot right now too!

Yes, bangs are in. Now before you chop them yourself, I recommend going to your hair stylist to choose which kind of bangs would look best. Your hair professional can let you know which type of bangs would work best for your face shape.

These bangs are much easier to leave alone, or style, while softening the face and taking a few years off your look. They are longer than the typical bangs, and usually part in the middle. Sideswept bangs are also in, which means they graze your face but part to the side. And if you have natural curls, bangs are not off the table. Ask your hairstylist how to make those curls into the best-looking bangs you’ve ever had.

Hair Adviser has an article showcasing 50 Cool Black Hairstyles for Every Length and Texture. Black hair with boho vibes is trendy right now. This means faux locs with loose spirals are great for creating a fun and relaxed style. Or try your curly locks up in a high bun. Or combine the braids and curls with a combination of stitch braids and crocket locks that are brown and blonde.

Want to change your hair color? Go for it! Why not try a warm tone like caramel, chestnut, or auburn? You can go for a full-color change or add some interesting features with highlights. Women-Club Online recommends trying a bold red, orange, or gold tone to change things up this season.

If you are ready for your hair to be completely different, there are more colors that have made the list for this fall: rose gold, mulled wine, salted caramel, “bronde”, cinnamon auburn, honey ombre, copper penny, melted chocolate brown, pumpkin spice, “blorange”, and café au lait (coffee and cream look).

Stylecraze even showcases the “shadow root blonde.” This way you can try blonde without worrying about the dark roots. “Lived-in hair” is easy and trendy. This is very good for all the busy moms out there!

Want a fun updo for visiting the pumpkin patch or an easy way to keep your hair looking great? Try some braids.

Going somewhere formal? Try using a flat iron to straighten your hair, with a finishing spray to keep it shiny. Or an updo like a bun or high ponytail.

Do you have naturally curly hair? Embrace it. Whether you can grow a beautiful afro, or simply want curly bangs, both are in, so show off those curls! This gives you a unique look to go along with those cozy sweaters.

Fall Outfit Trends for Women

Every season seems to come with things that are out of style and other things that are back in. If you’re an 80s baby like me, you are experiencing some flashbacks as of late . . . like wide-leg jeans. Yes, the skinny jeans are out and the wide-leg pants are back in style. I guess they are right when they say, “What goes around comes around.”

If you are like me, though, and don’t do cropped, just try a shorter chunky sweater or even a sleeveless one. These are easy to style if you buy solid colors because then you can wear them over tanks and tees. Asymmetric sweaters and classic pullovers are both in this year too.

Some more items that seem to be “out” are tunic tops, low-rise jeans, infinity scarves, leather pants/skirts, and even animal prints. Christinabtv says that corduroy is back in! It’s mainly on shorts, jackets, and skirts this fall. The Barbie movie brought back all the pink things – coats, shoes, and other accessories. So have fun with some pink!

Need something to wear to that fall wedding? Try a floral maxi dress! Not only are these comfortable, but they are easy to dress up or down depending on the occasion. Other modern floral prints will also work. Long-ribbed dresses and sweater dresses are back and popular. And don’t forget the polka dots! They are back too.

Are you a working mama? According to Jo-Lynne Shane, relaxed-fitting trousers are back. You can pair these pants with some pointy shoes, or shoes with wooden bottoms or heels. Vogue recommends finding a fitted pin-striped vest or oversized blazer for work.

But if green isn’t your color, Elle says everything red is in style (think tomato red) and butter yellow. According to Vogue, grays and metallics are also going to be popular this fall.

If you cannot part with your leggings, I get it. Comfort is most important for busy mamas! Instead of wearing the long sweaters with them, try wearing them with a blazer. Dress them up or down and have fun!

Where to Try New Fall Trends

  • Amazon Fashion is a great place to search for new trends and outfits. It is also a great place to order new outfits since you can send them back if they don’t work for you.
  • ThredUp is a great online resale shop carrying ALL the things. This is not only saving money in your bank account but also helping protect our planet.
  • If you are too busy to shop, why not try a fashion subscription box like StitchFix or Wantable Style Edit? There are even subscription boxes for petite women (like Short Story), or plus-sized women (such as Gwynnie Bee). Basically, there is something for everyone!

Pinterest is my go-to spot for finding fun haircuts and outfits that are in style. Let’s face it, I am home with my kids a lot, so I usually have no idea what is back in style. But Pinterest is my cheat sheet for figuring this out. You can collect all your ideas and save them on your own personal Pinterest board. That way you can bring your pictures to the thrift store for your next outfit, or to your hairdresser for your new hairdo.

Do you have to be “trendy”? Absolutely not. Wear what you feel beautiful wearing, and have your hair the length and style you love! But if you want to change things up this fall, go for it!
