We recently bought the book Good Night Charleston to celebrate the fact that we were approaching our one-year anniversary of living in this wonderful city. If you haven’t checked out this book series I highly recommend it. We already had the Good Night Indiana book that was a gift from a friend before we moved away last summer.
I thought this book would be fun to read this summer since we’ve been trying to cross off as many of the Summer Bucket List activities as we could fit in. I love doing scavenger hunts for my three-year-old, he gets so excited when he finds the items we are looking for! Since this is one of his new favorite bedtime reads, I decided to turn it into a scavenger hunt for us to find the places in the book. Many of the places mentioned are spread throughout Charleston, we split up the scavenger hunt into different days.
Horse and Carriage
We started off hunting for a horse and carriage. The horse and carriage tours are significant to me — my husband and I visited Charleston for a weekend trip as newlyweds and took a horse and carriage tour of downtown. I think that’s when we both fell in love with Charleston and I remember him saying, “Wouldn’t it be awesome to live here someday?”
Rainbow Row
Then we went to find Rainbow Row. I think I was the most excited about finding this one. I have always seen the pretty pictures of Rainbow Row but had never taken a stroll to see it in person. Anyone who knows me knows that I love colorful scenery. We are even building a “Charleston style” bright turquoise house right now!
Dock Street Theatre
Next on our hunt, we went to find the Dock Street Theatre and were able to take a peek inside!
Pineapple Fountain
After all this walking, we took our scavenger hunt to the Pineapple Fountain at Waterfront Park. I brought bathing suits for the kiddos and they cooled off in the two fountains at the park.
Praline Candy
Until reading this book, I hadn’t heard of delicious praline candy. I’m so glad that before heading home, we ended our scavenger hunt at Market Street Sweets to try the world-famous praline candy.
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens
During the same week, we spent a whole morning at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. It is so beautiful and such a fun place to explore! They even have a petting zoo, which both of my little ones loved.
